Dropstone: Pricing, Features & Best Use Cases

AI coding agent by Blankline with persistent memory across CLI, chat, SDK and editor, running on hosted open-weight models.

Who Dropstone fits

Choose Dropstone if you want a terminal-first coding agent with one memory shared across CLI, chat and editor extensions, starting free and moving to Pro at $15 per month for the Heavy model tier. Based on the vendor's documentation, not on a hands-on test.

Best for: Developers wanting a terminal-first coding agent

Also a good fit for

  • Teams preferring open-weight models with no data retention
  • Users who want one agent across CLI, chat and editor

Consider another tool if free plan has limited monthly usage

Or if

  • Heavy model tier only on Pro and above
  • Phone-call actions restricted to Max plan

What is Dropstone, and how does it work?

Dropstone is a coding agent from the research lab Blankline that keeps one memory per account across its CLI, web chat, SDK and VS Code/Cursor/Windsurf extension. It offers Fast, Pro and Heavy model tiers built on open-weight models, a 1M-token context window on every tier, plan mode, sandboxed code execution and approval gates on tool calls. Beyond code, the agent can watch an inbox, control smart-home devices and place phone calls (Max plan). Managed inference is US-hosted with zero data retention. The CLI installs as a single binary on macOS, Windows and Linux; a Free plan has limited monthly usage, and Pro/Max plans raise limits and add the Heavy tier and priority routing.

How to use Dropstone for fixing a bug in a repository with a terminal coding agent

Dropstone documentation — screenshot of the coding AI tool, Oct 1, 2026
Dropstone documentation: where the steps below come from. docs.dropstone.io, captured Oct 1, 2026

Set up Dropstone

  1. On dropstone.io choose Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub to create the account
  2. Download the single-binary CLI from the downloads page for macOS, Windows or Linux (or add the VS Code, Cursor or Windsurf extension)
  3. Sign in from the CLI and pick Dropstone Fast, Pro or Heavy as the model
  4. Optionally add an AGENTS.md with project conventions and connect tools via Remote MCP

Example: fixing a bug in a repository with a terminal coding agent

  1. Open a terminal in the repo and start the CLI
  2. Describe the bug and switch on plan mode so the agent proposes changes first
  3. Approve the proposed edits and the approval gate on each tool call
  4. Let it run tests in the sandbox and review the resulting diff

Review and export the result

  1. Review the diff before accepting and run your own test suite
  2. Check the usage page in the dashboard for what the request consumed
  3. Confirm the Free or Pro limit has not been reached for the month
Example prompt suggested by our editors (not a recorded output of the product)
Find why the checkout total is off by one cent, propose a fix in plan mode, then apply it and run the unit tests.

Privacy, data use and commercial rights

Summarized from the vendor's current policies; this is not legal advice and a vendor's badge is not an independent audit.

How your inputs and outputs are handled

Only relevant code snippets are sent to inference endpoints; indexing and embeddings run locally.

Policy says no third-party training and stateless inference, but Free, Pro and Max accounts are opted by default into programs using outcome metadata and full coding sessions to post-train Dropstone's own models; can be turned off in dashboard settings; Enterprise excluded.

Inference is ephemeral; derived memory (knowledge, lessons, summaries) is retained against your account.

Commercial use and plan restrictions

Enterprise excluded from training programs.

Controls for business users
