Which AI plan should I buy? Pick by task and how much you use it

The most common question on Reddit about AI tools is "ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Gemini, for my case?" The honest answer starts with what you do and how often. Answer two questions and you get the plans that fit, with the price, what the vendor says it includes and its usage caps, each from the official pricing page with a check date. We have not benchmarked model quality; this sorts plans by what they include.

Plans that fit

Prices in USD before tax, as published on each vendor's US pricing page on the date shown. Usage caps are quoted where the vendor states them; "Not stated" means no figure is published.

How the picks are chosen

  • Every plan comes from a verified profile: price, what it includes and its limits are quoted from the vendor, with a check date.
  • A plan is listed for a task when the vendor documents the relevant feature (for example Claude Code in Claude Pro, Codex in ChatGPT Plus, student eligibility for Copilot Student).
  • Intensity maps to tiers: free tiers for occasional use, the $20 tier for daily use, the $100 and $200 tiers for all-day use, because vendors sell higher tiers as larger usage windows.
  • No vendor pays for placement, and the order within a result is not a ranking.
