Best AgentMicro alternatives in 2026 (free and paid)
AgentMicro is free and open source, so people rarely leave over price. The reasons are scope: it needs macOS 14 or later, requires Codex Desktop or the CLI, reads Codex sessions only, and is an independent project not affiliated with OpenAI. Open-conversation also works only with Codex Desktop, and the enhanced prompt detection needs an optional system permission.
Our catalog lists two alternatives, and they are coding tools rather than monitors. GitHub Copilot has a free tier and Copilot Pro at $10 per user per month, which includes a cloud agent, code review and third-party agents such as Claude Code and Codex. Cursor has a free tier and Individual (Pro) at $20 per month, with cloud agents and extended Agent limits, and usage beyond the included amount is billed on demand. If you only want a menu bar status for Codex, neither replaces AgentMicro directly.
"Better suited" below is based on documented features and pricing from our verified profiles, not on a head-to-head test. Prices are USD as published by each vendor.

Why people look beyond AgentMicro
macOS 14+ only It will not run on older Macs
Requires Codex Desktop or CLI It is of no use unless Codex is already installed
Independent project, not affiliated with OpenAI Support and roadmap depend on community maintainers
Taken from the documented limitations in our AgentMicro profile.
Chat, agents, code review and CLI all draw from a monthly GitHub AI Credits allowance that varies by model and task, so heavy agent use can exhaust a plan mid-month and require paid extra usage or an upgrade.
