What is Sumzy, and how does it work?

Sumzy reads a store's existing WooCommerce or Shopify product reviews and places an AI-generated summary on the product page, with overall sentiment and clickable highlights of what customers liked and noted. Summaries update automatically as new reviews arrive. Higher plans add tone options, an approval and editing workflow, a review-intelligence dashboard and per-shopper languages.

How to use Sumzy for setting up AI review summaries on your WooCommerce or Shopify store

Sumzy documentation — screenshot of the productivity & writing AI tool, Oct 1, 2026
Sumzy documentation: where the steps below come from. sumzy.io, captured Oct 1, 2026

Set up Sumzy

  1. For WooCommerce: Download the Sumzy plugin ZIP from your account; upload via Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin; click Activate
  2. Enter your license key (from confirmation email or account page) to activate
  3. Go to Sumzy → Settings; choose your language (defaults to WordPress locale) and summary tone
  4. Review and save settings (first generation requires this gate)
  5. Click 'Generate summaries now' to queue all eligible products

Example: setting up AI review summaries on your WooCommerce or Shopify store

  1. Sumzy reads each product's existing reviews in the background
  2. For each product with 5+ approved reviews (default), Sumzy extracts text, star ratings, and coarse recency (not exact dates)
  3. The review text is sent to Sumzy's backend and Anthropic's Claude API to generate a summary
  4. The summary is returned, scrubbed for PII, and stored in your local wp_sumzy_summaries table
  5. The summary appears on the product page with sentiment, highlights, and per-aspect summaries
  6. As new reviews arrive, Sumzy re-indexes and refreshes in the background

Review and export the result

  1. Visit a product page with 5+ reviews and verify the summary widget appears
  2. Verify the summary tone and language match your settings
  3. Check that aspect highlights (e.g., 'Lightweight (189 mentions)') reflect your review set

Review text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API under commercial terms; input is NOT used to train AI models

    Sumzy FAQ

What data leaves my store and what does Sumzy do with it?

For each approved review, only the text, star rating, and coarse recency band (not exact date) leave your store. Reviewer name, email, IP, and exact date never leave. Text goes to Sumzy backend and Anthropic's Claude API to generate the summary; it is not used to train AI models. Sumzy keeps no raw review text. source (opens in a new tab)

How many reviews does Sumzy read per product?

Essentials reads up to 50; Professional reads up to 200; Business reads up to 500. These are ceilings, not promises. Most stores have fewer reviews than the ceiling, so the summary reads every review. Higher ceilings matter for products with hundreds of reviews. source (opens in a new tab)

Do I need to bring my own OpenAI or Anthropic API key?

No. Sumzy handles the AI on its backend using your license key only. No third-party API keys are required. source (opens in a new tab)

Can I approve and edit summaries before they go live?

Yes, on Professional and Business plans. You can read, edit, and approve each summary before publishing, or let Sumzy auto-publish without approval. source (opens in a new tab)

Can I remove the 'by Sumzy' branding?

Yes, on the Business plan only. Essentials and Professional include the 'by Sumzy' attribution on all summaries. source (opens in a new tab)
