Where Memory MCP Server runs and what it adds, from its documentation
  • Create entities and relations
  • Add observations to entities
  • Delete entities, relations and observations
  • Read the full graph
  • Search nodes by name, type or observation content, and open nodes by name

When to use it

Good fit

  • Letting an assistant remember facts across sessions
  • Simple local, file-based memory

Not for

  • Large-scale or shared memory: it is a basic local implementation
  • Production use without review: The root README says these are reference implementations meant as educational examples, not production-ready solutions.

How to install Memory MCP Server

You need: Node.js (npx) or Docker

  1. Make sure Node.js is available
  2. Add the npx command to your MCP client config
  3. Optionally set MEMORY_FILE_PATH for a custom storage file
  4. Restart the client

Permissions and security

What it can access

  • Reads and writes a local memory file (path configurable via MEMORY_FILE_PATH)

Security notes from the maintainers

  • The root README says these are reference implementations meant as educational examples, not production-ready solutions.

Review the source before granting an agent access to credentials or production systems. We document what the maintainers state; we do not audit code.

Limitations

  • Described as a basic implementation
