How Veo pricing works

Veo 3.1 is sold through two channels with different pricing models. The Gemini API bills usage per second of generated video: Veo 3.1 Standard is $0.40 per second at 720p or 1080p and $0.60 at 4K, Fast runs from $0.10 to $0.30 per second, and Lite runs from $0.05 to $0.08 per second. In the Gemini apps, video generation is included in Google AI subscriptions: Google AI Plus is $4.99 per month and Google AI Pro is $19.99 per month on the US page.

There is no free route. The Gemini API free tier does not include video generation, and consumer video generation needs a paid Google AI plan. The cheapest documented paid step is Veo 3.1 Lite on the API at $0.05 per second, which does not support 4K, or Google AI Plus at $4.99 per month in the apps. The subscription plans do not include API access.

Costs that are easy to miss

  • API billing is per second of generated video, so cost grows with clip length and the number of attempts.
  • 4K output raises the Standard rate from $0.40 to $0.60 per second, and Lite does not support 4K at all.
  • Google AI Plus and Pro do not include API access, so building video into an app means paying API rates separately.
  • The Gemini API free tier does not cover video generation.
