Best FigCanvas alternatives in 2026 (free and paid)
Researchers leave FigCanvas mainly over export quality and credits. Free exports are watermarked PNG, so figures are not submission-ready, and credits run at 18 per day for the first 3 days and fewer afterward, which stalls heavy iteration. Pro lifts this to 1,000 monthly credits, which large projects may still exhaust. Sign-in with Google or email is required.
Canva is a general design tool with 3.6M+ templates and print-ready CMYK export; Pro is $144 per person per year, and a free plan exists. It is not described as a scientific-figure tool, so editable SVG output is not stated. ChatGPT is a general assistant for writing, research, analysis and image generation; Plus is $20 per month and a free plan exists, though message caps and usage limits apply. Both are broader and less specialized than FigCanvas.
"Better suited" below is based on documented features and pricing from our verified profiles, not on a head-to-head test. Prices are USD as published by each vendor.
