Osaurus has a short list of real limits. It needs macOS 15.5 or later on Apple silicon, so Intel and older Macs are out and the Windows version is not generally available. Cloud usage is billed separately, and the Workspaces team plan at $20 per workspace per month needs a card for its 14-day trial and uses an introductory rate.
ChatGPT runs in the browser on any machine: free tier available, Plus at $20 per month per user, with usage limits. Claude is the same shape, with a free tier and Pro at $20 per month, or $17 per month on an annual subscription. Cursor is narrower, an editor-based coding agent; it has a free tier and Individual (Pro) is $20 per month with usage beyond the included amount billed on demand. All three are hosted services, so you give up the local, MIT-licensed model that Osaurus offers.

Why people look beyond Osaurus
Requires macOS 15.5+ on Apple silicon Intel and older Macs cannot run it
Almost every tool (uploads, images, voice, deep research, Codex) has plan-dependent usage caps that OpenAI states can change over time, and the API is billed separately from every ChatGPT subscription.
