Caret offers tab-to-complete text suggestions in any Mac app, and the reasons to look elsewhere are specific. It requires macOS 26 or later, it is Mac only as far as we could confirm, and it reads your screen continuously, so private content visible while it runs is part of what it sees. No price is published on the pages we read, so you cannot work out the cost before trying it.
Notion AI is the first option in our catalog: AI built into Notion for writing, workspace search, research, meeting notes and agent tasks. It has a free tier, and the Plus plan is $12 per member per month ($10 when billed yearly), though AI is only a limited trial on that plan. It works inside Notion rather than in every app.
Microsoft Copilot runs on web, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android and connects to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. It has a free tier, and the listed starting plan is Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99 per month for one person, with Copilot in the Office apps. That suits people who write mainly inside Office.
"Better suited" below is based on documented features and pricing from our verified profiles, not on a head-to-head test. Prices are USD as published by each vendor.
Taken from the documented limitations in our Caret profile.
| Tool | Starting price | Free tier | Platforms | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caret (this page) | Not published | Yes | Desktop | Es erfordert macOS 26 oder neuer, liest Ihren Bildschirm fortlaufend und nennt auf den lesbaren Seiten keinen Preis. |
| Notion AI | $12/mo (Plus) | Yes | Web, Desktop, Mobile | Full AI needs Business or Enterprise, and even there a rolling six-hour and monthly usage allowance applies; premium models, Custom Agents and Workers consume separately purchased Notion credits. |
