ChatGPT prompts: 4 examples from OpenAI's own guide

These prompts come from OpenAI's prompt engineering guide, not from our heads. Each one is copied word for word, with the parts you change marked as {variables}. We keep them because they show a pattern worth reusing: a developer message that fixes a coding style, a few-shot block that labels sentiment, and a one-shot brief that produces a working web app.

ChatGPT follows the "developer" (system) message more strictly than the chat turn, so put rules there and keep the user turn for the task. Few-shot examples work best when they are short and consistent in format; three good examples beat ten mixed ones.

So nutzen Sie diese Prompts

  • Put style rules in the developer message, not in the user prompt
  • Use 2–3 examples with identical formatting for classification tasks
  • State the output format explicitly (JSON, table, one sentence) at the end of the prompt
  • Swap the {variables} and keep the rest of the wording as published

FAQ

Are these prompts written by OpenAI?

Yes. All four are copied from OpenAI's prompt engineering guide and linked to the source section. We did not edit the wording.

Will they work in the free ChatGPT plan?

Yes. They use only text and do not depend on tools, uploads or a specific model.

How do I adapt a prompt to my task?

Replace the {variables} and keep the structure. If the output drifts, add one example of the exact format you want rather than more instructions.
